SC, ST commission seeks special budget allocation for development of the downtrodden


MAHABUBNAGAR: The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission submitted a proposal to the Government for special budget allocation for development of SCs and STs and the Government was planning to release additional budget under special component plan, according to M. Nagarjuna, chairman, State SC, ST Commission.

Speaking to press persons here on Monday, he said that efforts are being made by the commission for strict implementation of SC and ST Acts in the State. He deplored that members of SCs and STs are still facing atrocities like untouchability and problems in entering temples in some places of the State. To eradicate these evils from the society, the commission was taking special steps, he added.

Stringent action

Mr. Nagarjuna said that stringent action would be taken against the officials who failed to implement the SC, ST Act. He directed the district administration to create awareness among the people about the SC, ST Act and the concerned authorities should take proper steps for implementation of welfare schemes. He called upon the SC, ST community welfare committees to play a vital role in development of their members. He also asked the district authorities to clear pending cases at the earliest. Efforts are being made by the Commission to provide pucca houses, house sites and agriculture land to SC/STs.

Earlier, the commission discussed with district Collector V. Usharani, SP Charu Sinha, Joint Collector Christina about the implementation of welfare schemes as well as SC/ST Act in the district.

Deputy Director, social welfare Sreedhar, SC Corporation executive director Mallaiah and others participated.
