Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday asked the State Mandi Board to amend provisions of the composition of its Board of Directors (BoDs) to enhance the existing membership of non-official members from eight to 10. The move is claimed to be aimed at making the board broad-based to help it take pragmatic policy decisions. The decision was taken at a meeting of a 15-member delegation of the Federation of Aarhti (Commission agent) Associations of Punjab led by its president Ravinder Singh Cheema with Mr. Badal here. Mr. Badal asked State Financial Commissioner (Development) R.S. Sandhu to immediately issue a notification in this regard. He also asked the Mandi Board to amend Rule 21(3) for renewal of the licences of “katcha” (non-permanent) aarhtiyas. It was decided at the meeting to fix the charges for machine stitching and manual stitching at 55 paise and 40 paise per bag respectively and increase the minimum auction from 50 paise or Re.1 to Rs.10 or Rs.5, respectively. The modalities for allotment of shops to the old aarthiyas in new mandis were also discussed. It was decided that instead of one shop in the new mandi against one shop in the old mandi, a maximum of two shops of decreased size would be allotted in case there are more than one licensees in the old mandi operating from a single shop and who were otherwise eligible. – PTI.
