Jubilant: Supporters of various parties taking out procession before filing nominations in Chitradurga on Monday. Chitradurga: A total of 162 candidates filed about 265 nominations on the last day of filing nominations for elections to the urban local bodies on the last day of filing nominations here on Monday. The city witnessed several rallies proceeding towards the five offices where nominations were received. Hundreds of supporters of various parties and independents, who are contesting the election, took out processions accompanied with bands to the nomination centres. Chaos prevailed at all the nomination centres. The filing of nominations was completed by 4 p.m. According to information available, 71 candidates from the Congress, 25 from the Bharatiya Janata Party, 75 from the Janata Dal (Secular), four from the Bahujan Samaj Party, two each from the Janata Dal (United) and the Samajwadi Party and 84 independents have filed their nominations. The number of candidates in the fray will be known after scrutiny as many people had filed the nomination from of a specific party without obtaining B form. Elections will be held for 35 wards of the city, for which ward wise reservation has been declared.
