Displaced families stage dharna

VIZIANAGARAM: Under the aegis of CPI (M), families displaced by Thotapalli irrigation project staged a dharna at the Parvathipuram RDO Office on Monday demanding settlement of R & R package. When contacted, Kolaka Lakshmana Murty, CPI(M) MLA from Naguru, who led the protesters, said that though 80 per cent of the project work was completed and the oustees from Markondaputti, Gunanupuram, Bitrapadu, Nimmalapadu, Bhatla Bhadra and P. Rami Naiduvalasa were not paid compensation. The R & R package for widows and senior citizens was also not implemented. He said that the party would paralyse project works if their demands were not settled within 20 days.

Later, the oustees organised rasta roko near the RDO Office demanding release of the detained Peddagedda project oustees, who were detained on way to the RDO Office in two trucks to participate in the dharna, by the police at Pachipenta. The rasta roko was suspended after they were released in the afternoon.
