Zilla panchayat elections

KOLAR: A.C. Nagarathna and R. Venkatarama Reddy were elected as president and vice-president of Kolar zilla panchayat respectively. In Chickballapur, Chikkanarasimaiah became the first president of the newly-formed zilla panchayat after the formation of the new district. Vanajakshamma was elected as his deputy.

While the election for Chickballapur Zilla Panchayat was unopposed, there was a strong contest for both posts in Kolar. The Congress candidates won with 20 votes each while the BJP and the JD (S) got seven votes each.
