Corrections and clarifications

  • The heading of a report (Chennai city, September 17, 2007, page 4) was “Prevent school droupouts, [Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh] Barnala tells voluntary organisations”. “Droupouts” should have been “dropouts”.

  • A report “HMAS Adelaide to visit Chennai” (September 14, 2007) said that this Royal Australian Navy long-range guided missile frigate recently took part in the four-nation “Malabar” naval exercises in the Bay of Bengal between September 4 and 9. It should have been “five-nation exercises”, the countries being Australia, India, Japan, Singapore and the U.S.

  • A sentence in a report “Sankara Mutt donates bus to Tirupati temple” (September 14, 2007, page 8) was: “Mr. Reddy and TTD Executive Officer Ramanachari took possession of the bus meant to carry the idols of Lord Venkateswara and his concerts for ‘Kalyana Uthsavams’ at places other than Tirumala.” “Concerts” should have been “consorts”.

  • In an F-1 story “Raikkonen’s Belgian affair continues” (“Sport”, September 17, 2007), the placing for Rosberg was inadvertently omitted in the eighth paragraph “Germans Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg finished fifth for BMW and Williams respectively.” Rosberg finished sixth.

  • In a cricket report “Zimbabwe leaves Aussies zapped” (“Sport”, September 14, 2007), the fifth paragraph said that “… Hayden hit the ball hard into the deep to hole out for four.” The Australian opener was in fact caught behind by Brendan Taylor. (The report was on a World Twenty20 match.)
