MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has demanded ‘fairness’ in the process of appointment of lecturers in Madurai Kamaraj University College in the city, a constituent unit of the varsity. In a statement issued here on recently, K. Sadasivam, secretary of MUTA Zone I, said that there were 47 part-time lecturers with experience ranging from two to 10 years of service. “On September 9, all part-time lecturers were invited to appear before the review committee. But, to their utter disappointment, the review was done only for part-time lecturers of computer science department and others were left in the lurch,” he said. Eligible lecturersMr. Sadasivam said that the MUTA wanted the university authorities to promote eligible part-time lecturers as full-time lecturers. The statement alleged that there was an attempt to appoint full-time lecturers without considering the seniority and service of 47 part time lecturers. He pointed out that an assessment done by a Syndicate sub-committee of MKU in 2001 said that there was workload for appointment of 73 full-time lecturers. But, there were only 37 fill-time lecturers appointed in a phased manner and still there were 36 vacancies to be filled up by university authorities.
