Environment watch: Tiny tots at DAV Public School, Safilguda create eco-friendly Ganeshas while students of The Army School, Bolarum start a herbal garden
The Army School, Bolarum, started a herbal garden in their school premises to create awareness about the medicinal properties of various herbs. The herbal garden planted by students of VIII standard and inaugurated by Col. K. Eshwaran, Commanding Officer, IEME Centre, Secunderabad, comprised various herbs like turmeric, aloe vera, jatropha, passion fruit, mint, tridax and other plants. An eco-friendly activity like herbal garden would influence one to go herbal way in day- to-day living and spread the message across students that, “if we nourish nature, nature nourishes us”, says school principal, Sujata Tikku. DAV Public SchoolTiny tots of the LKG block as well as student members of the National Green Corp Eco Club of DAV Public School, Safilguda created eco-friendly Ganeshas from materials such as wheat flour, clay and vegetable dyes which looked attractive too. The students celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi by worshipping the images created by them and offered prayers. Later the Eco Club members administered an oath to fellow students in the school to preserve the environment by being eco-conscious at all times. They also staged a thought provoking skit and dance, according to Principal Seetha Kiran. St. Mary High SchoolSt. Mary High School, New Nallakunta, organised an ‘Open Day’ exhibition to bring out creative talents of the students. A variety of art, educational and innovative items were put on display by students including paintings, drawings, innovative educational aids, models, vegetable carvings. Pre-primary and primary children also participated with their creations with the guidance from teachers and parents. The exhibition was inaugurated by Deputy Educational Officer, Amberpet Vidya Shikar and Headmistree C. Parvathi gave away the prizes for the best paintings, drawings displayed in the exhibition. Sister Nivedita SchoolSister Nivedita School honoured Director, Centre for Public Policy and Social Development G.R.S.Rao on the occasion of Teacher’s Day recently. Dr. Rao called upon the teachers to constantly learn to become better teachers. The students of IX and X standard observed self-governance day and donned the roles of ‘student teachers’ to bag Best Student Teacher award followed by cultural programmes. Foster SchoolStudents of Foster High School, Sainikpuri celebrated recently Grand Parents Day and students from LKG to X standard put up a grand show for the grandparents appreciating their contribution to their lives. The day’s celebration also included investiture ceremony and the School Captain and the team were administered oath to fulfil their responsibilities as student leaders. Hindu Public SchoolHindu Public School, Sanathnagar organised late Sri Kanjerla Shankar Yadav Memorial 7th Inter School Sports Meet recent. The following school teams won prizes in various events: Basket Ball (Boys)- Niraj Public School, Begumpet, Ist prize, DAV, Safilguda, IInd prize and Hindu Public School-III pride; Basket Ball (Girls)- Don Bosco, Erragadda, Ist, DAV, Kukatpally, IInd and Hindu Public School, IIIrd; Volley Ball (Boys)- DAV, Safilguda, Ist, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Jubilee Hills, IInd and DAV, kukatpally, IIIrd; Volley Ball (Girls): BVB, Jubilee Hills, Ist, KV, Begumpet, IInd and St.Phelomena, Secunderabad, IIIrd; Throw Ball: BVB, Jubilee Hills, Ist, St.Francsis Girls High School, IInd and Hindu Public School, III. Chess and Table Tennis events were also conducted and prizes awarded.
