MOBILE TO MOBILE: Cellphone owners can now download ‘BAK2U’ anti-theft software that alerts any two numbers whenever a handset is stolen. BANGALORE: Lost your mobile phone or had it stolen? You are in good company, but need not give up hope of recovering your favourite gadget. A simple anti-theft software, marketed by a Bangalore-based company, inserted into the cellular phone will come to your aid, even if the “mobile kalla” replaces the SIM card. AlertWith the apt-sounding brand name “BAK2U” the software developed in Singapore, “you are almost sure of locating the missing phone within minutes and any two of your close contacts will get to know it is missing and can alert you,” says Arun Sundaram, whose fledgling enterprise Arpan Enterprises, markets an anti-virus software for internet enabled mobile phones, which large numbers of young people are using now. Coming back to BAK2U, it works in a simple way. Location finderYou store any two contact numbers on it and a simple programme acts as a location finder as well, helping in tracing the missing mobile, says Mr. Sundaram. “As soon as your own SIM is unauthorisedly removed, these two contacts receive a message, indicating where the handset is now. It can help you or the police recover the phone faster,” he says. The introductory price for the software is Rs. 399 and right now it can only be used on Nokia handsets but soon versions suitable for Sony Ericsson and Motorola will be available.
