TIRUPUR: More than 250 Vinayaka idols were taken out in procession on the streets of Tirupur on Monday by Hindu Munnani activists in the wake of Vinayaka Chadurthi.

The procession went off peacefully.

Hindu Munnani state secretary C. Subramanian presided over the rally that started from three points: near new bus stand on Perumanallur Road, Government Hospital on Dharapuram Road and Chellam Nagar on Mangalm Road.

The idols were taken to Andipalayam tank of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project for immersion.

Hundreds of police personnel deployed to control the crowd. Traffic was diverted in several places for a while.
