Tips for avoiding accidents during Ganesh festivities

Children should not be allowed near power lines

Objects thrown on power lines cause short-circuits

HYDERABAD: With showers becoming a regular feature during the ongoing Ganesh festivities, the Andhra Pradesh Power Distribution Company Ltd (APCPDCL) has issued certain pointers to be strictly followed by organisers of various Ganesh pandals in the twin cities to avoid mishaps pertaining to electricity.

The organisers have to examine the surroundings of the power line locations before taking up any electrical work in and outside the Ganesh pandals.

The organisers have to make sure that no one touches snapped wires and inform the electricity department about the same immediately, the release said.

Children at risk

Children should not be allowed to come close to power lines and objects should not be thrown on the power lines because they may cause short-circuits leading to snapping of conductors.

Public are advised not to meddle with the overhead power lines while moving the idols. Climbing of electricity poles for connections and touching a person who is in contact with live power lines should be avoided, the release informed.

In case of an electrical shock, it is important to seek immediate medical attention. In situations of electrical emergency, public should make sure to contact helpline ‘155333’ or the nearest CPDCL officials, the release informed.
