‘VIPs should drive during peak hours’

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: “Authorities always look for only one option of flyovers to ease traffic flow, but the need of the hour is parallel routes. For an ever busy Ameerpet-Secunderabad route, there is no parallel route; the situation gets even worse when it rains,” says Srinivas, an auto-rickshaw driver.

“This is all because of increasing number of vehicles (four-wheelers) on the roads. For a family of five members, there are three cars. People possessing more than one vehicle in a family should be levied double tax on the second and third cars,” suggests an RTC driver.

“Traffic police in Hyderabad always concentrate on levying penalties and challans rather than monitoring traffic flow,” says Sridhar Reddy, a student pointing to two traffic police inspectors levying challans near Begumpet Katta Maisamma temple when the traffic on the route was choked completely on Monday morning.

Common man’s woe

“The hardship of travelling on city roads is known only to commoners while VIPs, including Chief Minister, Police and GHMC Commissioner have the pleasure of travelling easily without getting stuck in traffic jams. They (VIPs) will learn the difficulty of travelling on city roads only when they are made to drive their vehicles on the city roads during peak hours,” says Mukund Goud, a businessman.
