Passengers’ hardship

Samayapuram Temple is one of the most important landmarks in Tiruchi, where thousands of people worship every day. Most of the people come from districts such as Namakkal, Salem, Perambalur, Ariyalur etc. Their ultimate choice of departure from Samyapuram is Chatram bus stand via Tollgate. But these buses do not enter No.1 Tollgate bus stop and passengers get down in the bridge on bye-pass road. This forces people to cross the road and trek the bridge, which does not have steps.

I request the authorities concerned to make efforts to enter buses No.1 Tollgate.

Leakage from cylinder

Though cooking gas is an efficient and convenient fuel, its leak will cause a major fire accident. A distributor says leak of gas from the outlet of the cylinder is tested by connecting the regulator and gas stove to the cylinder.

Light the burner when the regulator position is in the “off” position and burner is in “on” position. If it is not burning he says there is no leak. I think this is not the correct procedure. We have to test the leak by putting some dilute soap solution at the outlet. If bubbles appear, it means it leaks. Leak occurs because of the wear and tear of the washer in the cylinder.

Gas companies should enlighten consumers on correct procedures for detecting leak.

Traffic signal needed

It is mandatory to set up a traffic signal near Kattur bus stop in both the directions. As Kattur is situated on Tiruchi-Tanjore highway, traffic is heavy. The public find it very difficult to cross the busy road, particularly aged people and children.

Repair roads

As rainy season is nearing, roads in Tiruchi and outer parts of the city need to be repaired properly. In spite of the requests by the public through the press, many roads have been left uncared for.

Two-wheelers, cars and other vehicles are damaged by these roads.

The authorities concerned should do the needful at the earliest.

Traffic islands

Traffic islands at Railway junction, Aristo junction and old palpannai are best suited for 100-foot roads. The circumference of the traffic island should be proportionate to the width of the road. The best examples are Othakadai and Head Post Office traffic islands.

The worst example is the railway junction traffic island. The height and circumference of these islands may be downsized accordingly.

The traffic island opposite Hotel Ananth near Central bus stand in Tiruchi is not serving the purpose. Parking of autos and omni-buses near this island hampers free flow of traffic. The authorities concerned should maintain all these islands to avoid accidents.

Shun crackers

I have decided to make this Deepavali an ‘environment friendly’ one by not firing crackers.

Nowadays, use of fire-works is causing a lot of disturbance to the aged. Reports of heart attack and associated problems are many.

Reservation facility

The Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation can introduce statewide reservation facility.

At present, if a passenger wants to reserve a ticket by a particular bus, he has to get the tickets reserved from the place of boarding. If the Government can make arrangements to reserve tickets as in the railways, it will be useful for passengers to reserve tickets from anywhere in the State.

Accidents at level crossings

Most of the accidents are caused because of carelessness of the public. Accidents in level crossings occur frequently.

There is no point in blaming the railways for such accidents. People flout the rules in level crossings.

Even in manned level crossings, one can observe that when gates/bars closed, walkers and two-wheeler riders ignore rules and squeeze themselves through whatever gap is available.

Automated terminal

The automated terminal for reservation enquiry at the Srirangam railway station has not been functioning for the past several days.

The terminal has since been taken away from the station and no information is available to the public regarding its fate and whether it will be reinstalled.

The terminal eversince its installation has been of immense help to elders and women to get immediate details on vacancies and status of tickets.
