Court directive on school freeship

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Delhi Government to give wide publicity to the provision for providing free education to students belonging to poorer sections of society by private schools that were allotted land at concessional rates.

Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice Sanjiv Khanna issued the direction on a petition by Ashok Aggarwal of a non-government organisation,

“Social Jurist”, seeking a direction to the State Government to take action against schools that have not filed affidavits in the High Court saying they would implement its order to provide free education to poor students.

The Bench also directed the schools to carry advertisements in the print and the electronic media abut the percentage of students to whom they provided free education.
