AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who celebrated his 58th birthday on Monday with tribals, sprang a surprise, announcing the bifurcation of Surat to create an all-tribal district. The new district, headquartered at Vyara, would be created with five tribal-dominated taluks, Mr. Modi hinted. He, however, did not indicate when the government would initiate the bifurcation process and what the composition of the district would be. Ramar Sethu: continues tirade against UPAAddressing a series of tribal meetings in Surat and Bulsar districts, Mr. Modi continued to attack the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre on the Ramar Sethu issue. Comparing the UPA government with “Ravana,” Mr. Modi reiterated his threat to start a “civil disobedience movement” against the Centre if the State’s “proposals” for allocation of forest land to over three lakh tribal families were not approved by October 2.
