NEW DELHI: The government on Monday sent its response to the Left parties on their concerns over the nuclear deal with the United States. It will be discussed at the UPA-Left committee meeting on Wednesday. “We have received the government’s response. We are studying it. We will give our reply to it at the meeting on Wednesday,” a senior Left leader said. The reply, believed to be running into 12 pages, follows a five-page note submitted by the Left last week. DiscussionSources in the Left parties said they would hold discussions among themselves as well as with the scientific community to prepare for the committee meeting. The exchange of views between the government and its supporting parties came even as the General Council meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency began in Vienna. Protest rallyAhead of the committee meeting, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is organising a protest rally here against the deal. It will be addressed by CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat.
