BHUBANESWAR: The government has approached the Centre seeking upgradation of the Odissi Research Centre into a national centre of dance on the lines of the Kathak Kendra of New Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Manipuri, Imphal. The former Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi president and eminent scholar on Odissi dance, D.N. Patnaik, and Chief Executive of the Odissi Research Centre and noted musician Ramahari Das urged the government to take up the matter with the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. Culture Minister Surya Narayan Patro and BJD leader Braja Kishore Tripathy’s initiative move the matter forward, an official said.
