Deve Gowda’s meeting with Governor was a routine affair: Sadananda Gowda

‘BJP will win all the four local bodies in Kodagu’

‘Rebel candidates less in BJP compared to those in other parties’

Madikeri: The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s meeting with Governor Rameshwar Thakur a few days ago could have been a routine affair and there was no need to read anything else into it, State BJP president D.V. Sadananda Gowda has said.

He was speaking to presspersons at the Government Guest House here on Tuesday after performing “guddali puja” at Bakka in Bettageri Gram Panchayat, for a road project funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

Mr. Sadananda Gowda said that he had come to know about the meeting only through media reports. Mr. Deve Gowda was a senior leader and meeting a Governor who had taken charge newly was a usual affair, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa was sure to be elected as leader of the party by the BJP legislators in the run-up to the day marking the transfer of power from Janata Dal (Secular) to the BJP, he said.

He parried the question on transfer of power, saying that the BJP believed in a politics of trust and belief. On urban local body elections, Mr. Sadananda Gowda said the BJP was sure to win 50 per cent of the seats. There were 4,400 candidates contesting on party ticket and another 300 had tied up with other parties, except the Congress and Communist parties. In Belgaum, the BJP supported pro-Kannada organisations. Rebel candidates were less in the BJP compared to those in other political parties, he said.

The BJP would win all the four local bodies in Kodagu — Madikeri city municipal council and the town panchayats of Kushalnagar, Virajpet and Somwarpet, he said. He exuded confidence in that the BJP will emerge as the single largest party in all the four local bodies.

Speaking at Bakka earlier, Mr. Sadananda Gowda asked the people in villages to monitor the progress and quality of projects.

Madikeri MLA K.G. Bopaiah said that the dream of the people of Palur, Bakka, Kottur and Karugunda for a good road was being realised, he said. Local people should part with portions of their land to make the 22-foot road. A sum of Rs. 90 lakh had been sanctioned for construction of retaining wall at the Palur temple. Mr. Sadananda Gowda and Mr. Bopaiah also laid foundation stone for the Kottur-Kottoli-Karugunda Road.
