Woman dies in firecracker burst at temple festival

CHENNAI: A woman died and about 30 persons were injured when bursting of firecrackers caused an accident at a temple festival in Ennore late on Sunday night.

Police said a large number of people had assembled to participate in the temple festival at Thalankuppam in Ennore as part of which the crackers were burst. However, some of the crackers misfired and fell in the crowd.

In the ensuing melee, a woman identified as Eswari (30) of Triplicane suffered serious burns and died on the spot.
