Jamshedpur: Over 30,000 lawyers across Jharkhand struck work on Tuesday in protest against the killing of an advocate by his abductor during a police operation to rescue him. Over 2,000 lawyers of a local court here took out a procession demanding action against the police for their “inept” handling of the operation. Officer in charge of the Sonari police station, Manoj Kumar Thakur, has already been suspended. The Association demanded a compensation of Rs. 25 lakh for the family of the slain lawyer Sadan Kumar Chatterjee and a government job for a kin of the deceased. Chatterjee, who was kept in illegal confinement for 45 days here by accused Arbindo Guha and his wife Sumita, was killed when the police broke open the door of his house to free the lawyer. - PTI
