Thiruvananthapuram: A National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will be set up near Taliparamba in Kannur district, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has said. Replying to questions in the Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister said the Government had allocated Rs.3 crore for the NIFT and Rs.1 crore had been given to KINFRA which was appointed as the nodal agency for the project. As per the agreement, the State government has to provide the infrastructure facilities needed for the project. The State will have to provide 12 acres, and a sum of Rs.58.65 crore is needed for setting up infrastructure facilities. ‘Friends’Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, in a written reply, said the services of ‘Friends’ would be extended to taluk level. Services of LIC, Railways and Passport Application would be soon made available through ‘Friends’ soon. IT parks will be set up in all districts, except Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam, Mr. Achuthanandan said.
