NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government’s Power Department claims to have received an overwhelming response to its scheme encouraging installation of solar water heaters and is hopeful that it will receive at least a thousand applications for the scheme during the current year.
The department has made the use of solar water heaters mandatory in hospitals, hotels, government buildings and 300 water heaters of 500 litres capacity are expected to be installed in these buildings this year.
The Delhi Government has also announced a rebate scheme for solar water heaters for domestic consumers. Sources in the department said 37 requests have been received from consumers for installation of solar water heaters during the financial year 2006-2007, of which 24 cases have been sanctioned a rebate of Rs.6,000 each.
