Witness unable to substantiate claims

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A defence witness in the Nitish Katara murder case on Tuesday could not substantiate his allegation before a Delhi court that the investigating officer, Anil Samania, had carried out a “faulty probe”.

Appearing as the defence witness before Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur, Samar Singh, a senior advocate from Allahabad, told the court that he did not personally know Samania but had made the allegations earlier on the basis of a “sting operation” by a TV channel. The sting operation had purportedly shown Samania as being involved in encounter killings against monetary considerations.

‘No legal action’

However, when Special Public Prosecutor B. S. Joon asked if he took legal recourse in connection with the allegation he had made, Singh answered in the negative. The Special Prosecutor also asked Singh if he was aware that a case of assault had been registered against Vikas at the Chanakyapuri police station. Singh expressed ignorance about any such case.
