DEHRA DUN: After Uttar Pradesh, the Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Retail is facing opposition in neighbouring Uttarakhand where vegetable markets remained shut on Tuesday in protest against the corporate’s entry into food retail business. Vegetable vendors here in the State capital and other towns stayed away from their daily business and wholesale markets too were closed. Traders also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister B. C. Khanduri, saying the retail ventures of big firms would directly affect their business. They also threatened to launch an agitation if the Government allows organised retail players to open shop in the State. Reliance Fresh, the food retail store of Reliance, is planning to open outlets in Dehra Dun. However, it was not clear whether big retailers would procure vegetables directly from farmers. - PTI
