TINDIVANAM: National secretary of the Communist Party of India D.Raja has said that what is termed as Adam’s Bridge or Ramar Sethu in the Palk Straits is a tombolo, a sand deposit. In the name of belief no hurdles should be posed to growth, he said. Mr. Raja was speaking at the function organised by the Pattali Makkal Katchi at Thailapuram on Monday. He said there was no scientific proof that Ramar Sethu was built by a battalion of simians at the behest of Lord Rama. The archaeologists and the scientists disputed the theory that it was a man-made structure. Whereas, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Sangh Parivar had been maintaining that it was a matter of belief and hence, it should not be tampered with. Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy too had taken up their cause. Mr. Raja questioned how could the Sangh Parivar claim that it was representing the entire Hindu community in the country. Referring to the civilian nuclear cooperation with the United States, Mr. Raja said his party was neither against the pact nor against the joint naval exercise in the Bay of Bengal. He said PMK founder S.Ramadoss was keen that he become Rajya Sabha MP and hence, he had come to Thailapuram to thank the latter. Dr. Ramadoss said it was Mr. Raja who stood by Union Minister for Health Anbumani Ramadoss during the All India Institute of Medical Sciences episode. Dr Anbumani said he had a supporter in Mr. Raja in Parliament.
