Teachers told to be ready for direct action

HYDERABAD: The State Council of Andhra Pradesh State Teachers’ Union on Tuesday resolved to ask teachers to be ready for direct action, demanding steps to solve long-pending problems and protest against Government’s ‘indifferent’ attitude.

Union members will participate in the indefinite hunger strike planned by the Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisations on October 2.

The council sought intervention of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to secure unified service rules for teachers, implementation of G.O. 610 with ‘commitment’, scrapping contributory pension system and issue of orders on agreements reached with teachers’ organisations. The meeting also sought extension of G.O. 40 to headmasters of aided and municipal schools, extension of automatic advancement scheme to special teachers and also the mid-day meal scheme in high schools under the management of a special machinery on the lines of the one in Tamil Nadu. It wanted the anomalies panel report to be implemented for State staff and teachers.
