Thiruvananthapuram: The government has decided to order a comprehensive inquiry into the bursting of the penstock pipe taking water to the Panniar power house by a team of technical experts. Electricity Minister A.K. Balan said here on Tuesday that all assistance would be provided to the families of the KSEB employees who died. The Minister said that the leak in the penstock from the Ponmudi dam in Idukki district to the Panniyar power house was detected around 4.30 p.m. on Monday. The power house came to know of it by 5 p.m. A team of employees who were in the Chenkulam-Panniyar power house immediately rushed to the valve house to close the butterfly valve for controlling the water. The valve house was 1.5 km above the power house. But as the team could not take that route, it took the four-km road route. It was this team which met with the accident. Those still missing were K.L. Jose, Assistant Engineer, P.V. Reji, Jaison and Sebastian, linemen, and Jomet John, contract worker. The Minister visited the accident site on Tuesday evening.
