Sikh pilgrims denied visas
Amritsar: As many as 500 Sikh pilgrims have been refused visas by the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, chief of the Shriomani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Avtar Singh Makkar said here on Tuesday.
He said SGPC had applied for visa for the pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib. Asked for the reasons for the denial of visas, he said the Pakistan government expressed inability to provide them security.
Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib has great importance in Sikh history as the founder of the Sikh religion Guru Nanak Dev had spent the last days of his life here and cultivated agricultural land.
Mr. Makkar said the coming elections in Pakistan and the political instability there could also be a reason behind the denial of visas. — PTI
