Police Act to be amended

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said here on Tuesday that the Kerala Police Act, 1960 will be suitably amended to make it more contemporary.

He was speaking at the conclusion of the State-level consultation on community policing.

Policemen executing law and order functions would be given a minimum tenure of two years in the same post, he said.

The Government would constitute a police complaints authority and Board to hear the grievances of policemen and also a security commission with the Leader of the Opposition as one of the members. Women would be directly recruited as sub-inspectors.
