Referring the issue to a committee eye-wash, say TDP leaders Summoning of the Assembly for a discussion sought Kakinada: Telugu Desam Polit Bureau members -- Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Pratibha Bharati -- have accused Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy of making inconsistent and contradictory statements on the report of former Vigilance Commissioner Ramachandra Samal with a view to ` hushing up’ things and diverting attention of people. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday along with Chikkala Ramachandrarao, former Minister, and Jyothula Nehru, district TDP president, they said referring the whole issue to a committee headed by the Chief Secretary was nothing but eye-wash. “The committee consists of members whose integrity was already in question; as such it will not serve any purpose. Moreover the Chief Minister had already given clean chit to Jannat Hussain and Bhanu, officials of the CM’s office, besides his Ministers. On one side, the Chief Minister prejudged the issue and on the other referred it to a committee. Is it not sending wrong signals?” they said. ‘Undemocratic’The TDP leaders wanted the Governor to summon the Assembly for a brief session to debate the Samal report and the aftermath. Clarifying that Samal’s report should not be viewed as individual opinion, but only as that of head of the institution --Vigilance Commission created by a special enactment, whose findings have sanctity, they wanted a thorough debate keeping the relevant records for perusal before the Speaker. Charging that the Chief Minister and other Ministers instead of giving satisfactory replies to the charges levelled by Mr. Samal launched counter-attack, the TDP leaders said that it was highly improper and undemocratic on the part of the ruling party.
