KORAPUT: Suspected movement of two persons in the State Bank of India at Koraput led the police to catch hold of two leaders of an Inter-State robbers’ gang. The district police, who were very much worried over the repeated act of stealing money from dickeys of motorbikes in the town, had been keeping an eye on the movement in and outside the bank for the last few days. When Sarat Kumar Sahu, the OIC of Koraput police station, was in the bank, he noticed a person sitting on the bench wearing a helmet near the cash counter. He suspected the movements of the person. However, before he could do anything, the person sensed the danger and rushed outside along with another person. But it was no less than a scene from the Bollywood when Mr. Sahu caught them before they could flee the place on a motorbike. The police have seized screwdrivers and bottles of jelly from them. On being interrogated they confessed to their involvement in a number of such cases in Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, including the recent cases of thefts at Koraput, Mr. Sahu said. The modus operandi of the gang from Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district is to visit banks in groups. While two of them keep an eye on the persons drawing good amount of money from cash counter, two others wait outside the bank waiting for their signal. When the person carrying the money goes out, they follow him on a bike and steal the money from the dickey, he said.
