Biranchi Das withdraws petition from court

Correspondent

CUTTACK: Just a day after the State Government announced that marathon child Budhia Singh would be sheltered in sports hostel and the government would bear all his expenses, his estranged former coach and self-claimed foster father Biranchi Das withdrew a petition pertaining to Budhia from Orissa High Court on Tuesday.

Budhia had filed the petition through Biranchi in June this year, a day after his much publicised 500 km walkathon from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata was stopped by the police on the basis of a Khurda district child welfare committee order. Biranchi’s counsel told the High Court that in view of the changing circumstances when Budhia is no more staying with Biranchi, the petition has lost its relevance. Budhia Singh alleging torture meted out to him by his coach had been staying with his mother for the last two months.
