NEW DELHI: Two alleged Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were killed by the Special Cell of the Delhi police in a joint operation with the Special Operation Group of Kashmir police and the Army at Bandipora in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Both residents of Pakistan, they have been identified as Abu Bakr alias Usman and Tariq Mohammad alias Sajjad. Addressing a press conference at Police Headquarters here, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh said the police had received specific information early this month suggesting that JeM Bandipora District Commander Amanullah Bukhari alias Chachu along with other Pakistani militants would pass through village Kyar in Bandipora to shift his hideout. “All possible routes emerging out of the village were cordoned off and three men were spotted around 3-15 a.m. When challenged to surrender, they opened fire on the raiding party. It led to four-hour-long fierce gun battle between the terrorists and the raiding party and two of them were eventually killed. However, Amanullah managed to escape,” said Mr. Singh.
