Rain cuts off link road

BANGALORE: The main road link to residential areas such as Indian Express Layout, Bhadrappa Layout, Balaji Layout in Bytarayanapura zone is a shambles. Kodigehalli Main Road has been closed since Friday, forcing vehicle users to take circuitous routes to reach the Outer Ring Road.

“The BBMP has taken up widening of the storm water drain leading to Hebbal Lake over the past 10 months. So every time it rains, the road becomes terrible,” said Nadeem B.N., who owns a cycle repair shop on the road.

The road filled with slush forced pedestrians to climb precariously at certain points onto the protective barricades above the storm water drain. “The road turned really bad after the recent rains. Added to it was the incomplete work which made matters worse. Just this morning, a woman lost her balance while walking on the sticky mud and hurt herself,” said Krishnappa, a resident of Bhadrappa Layout, said on Monday.

N. Jayaram, Joint Commissioner of the zone, said that while the road would be opened up soon, the storm water drain remodelling would take another two months.
