Infrastructure to be improved at a cost of Rs.31.95 lakh

THANJAVUR: Manora near Pattukottai in Thanjavur district, where a fort built by Maratha King Serfoji II stands on the sea coast, will soon get a face lift with the State Tourism Department allocating Rs.31.95 lakh for improving infrastructure there.
According to tourism officer R. Dhandapani, the work will be completed in six months. A rest shed and a tourist rest house will come up. The existing children’s park will be developed with additional facilities.
Other works include providing additional lighting, improving toilets, installing display boards, planting saplings along the road to the beach, laying a new road from Sethu Road to Manora and renovating thatched umbrella structures on the beach.
Boats to be purchased
The Tourism Department will purchase three boats, to take tourists out to the sea. At present, fishermen use their boats to take tourists on a sea ride.
The fort, a seven-storeyed structure with a circular staircase, was built by King Serfoji II to commemorate the victory of the British over Napolean Bonaparte in the Battle of Waterloo.
