CHENNAI: The State Election Commission will soon have a new building, which will come up on 50 cents opposite the Chennai mofussil bus terminus at Koyambedu.
According to an official release, the building will come up at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore. The State Government had allotted Rs.60 lakh as the first instalment.
State Election Commissioner D. Chandrasekaran, who met the Chief Minister recently, said the Commissions in other States were financially autonomous. Similarly, the Commission in Tamil Nadu should be granted financial autonomy.
He also requested the Chief Minister to sanction Rs.37.50 lakh more for the building project.
He also explained to him the recommendation of State Election Commissioners for uniform service rules for the commissioners in the country.
