Karunanidhi wants contributions of statesmen to be highlighted

CHENNAI: The life and contributions of statesmen of yesteryears should be made accessible to all though media such as sound and light shows, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said here on Tuesday.

He was speaking after witnessing the premiere of a sound and light show ‘Kaviya Kalaignar 84’ created from episodes taken from his life.

He named Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai, Congress leader Kamaraj and Periyar as some of the leaders of the past about whom such shows could be staged. This would also help create an awareness of the contributions of the leaders, he added.

Mr. Karunanidhi suggested that national leaders could also be portrayed through media that would be easily assimilated by the people. Specific episodes of their interaction with leaders in the State, including him, could be enacted, he added.

More than 500 artists came together in about 25 stages to bring to life the show. Directed by A. Johnson, and set to music by Gangai Amaran, was watched by Mr. Karunanidhi, his cabinet colleagues, family, partymen and officials.

The lyrics and dialogues were penned by Vincent Chinnadurai.

Among those who spoke about Mr. Karunanidhi’s contributions were S. Peter Alphonse, MLA; director Bharatiraja and S.Jegatrakshakan.
