Jammu: A resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has sought the enhancement of his stay on this side of the Line of Control (LoC) to take advantage of the medical facilities available here. Ghulam Mohammad came on a permit to Loran village in Poonch district on July 16 to meet his relatives. (A permit is a document used by residents of Jammu and Kashmir to travel across the LoC to meet their families. Usually, they were allowed to stay up to a maximum of one month.) As Mr. Mohammad wanted to get his kidneys and heart checked, he appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The court said the petitioner should not be deported provided he filed an undertaking that he would not leave the jurisdiction of the District Magistrate, Poonch, without prior permission of the court and would intimate the District Magistrate about his whereabouts every week. A year ago, Nawab Din, 99, a resident of Mirpur in PoK, had come to Rajouri to meet his son after four decades. After one month, he refused to return, saying he did not have any relatives in Mirpur. He also moved court and got his deportation stayed.
