Violence-hit AMU still tense
Aligarh: Students of Aligarh Muslim University, which has been closed indefinitely after Monday’s violence over the killing of an engineering student, have started returning home following instructions from authorities.
Arrangements have been made to transport the students, who were given 48 hours to vacate hostels, as the situation on the campus is still tense.
The killing of Mazhar Naeem on Sunday night sparked widespread violence with protesters ransacking several offices and setting fire to the Vice-Chancellor’s residence. Rapid Action Force and PAC personnel have been deployed on the campus.
No arrests have been made so far.
The university has already decided to institute a high level probe by a retired Supreme Court judge into all incidents of violence on the campus in the past year.
The killing of Naeem, who was attacked near his hostel by some unidentified persons, was the third incident since April. — PTI
