CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday condemned the burning of a Tamil Nadu-bound bus on Tuesday night near Bangalore in which two were charred to death. He said it was the Karnataka government’s duty to take action. “They will do their duty. We will do ours. The incident has exposed the culture of Ram baktas,” he told journalists here. On the attack on his daughter Selvi’s residence in Bangalore, the Chief Minister said he welcomed opposition but considered this kind of opposition equivalent to dust. He reiterated that there was nothing wrong in what he said about Ram. “There is no historical evidence about Ram or about his engineering expertise in constructing a bridge.” Asked if some people were blowing out of proportion the Ramar Sethu issue, he said this indeed was the case. “They do not want the Sethusamudram project to be implemented. They are searching for small pretexts to fulfil their aim.” Mr. Karunanidhi said he would impress upon the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government to go ahead with the scheme. “That is the reason for my convening an all-party meet on September 24.”
