New parkOfficial sources told The Hindu that as part of the project, a park would be established at the historic Kulasekarapattinam town at Rs.44 lakh, to augment recreational activities along the beach. The town once boasted a minor port having commerce with Sri Lanka. The port lost its importance with the development of a major port in Tuticorin. Sources said that Rs.2 lakh from the allocation would be utilised to establish play materials like swings and slides for children and Rs.4.05 lakh to provide drinking water as well as toilet facilities to the visitors. A compound wall for the park will be constructed at Rs.5.10 lakh and illuminations will be installed at the recreation area at a cost of Rs.7.05 lakh. The remaining amount will be used for the establishment of a black top road (approach road) to connect the park to the nearest arterial road, to a length of about one kilometre.
