MESSAGE: NCC cadets of H.H. The Rajah’s College taking out a cancer awareness rally in Pudukottai.

PUDUKOTTAI: Members of the National Cadet Corps of H.H. The Rajah’s College here took out a procession recently with a noble purpose: to create awareness of preventive measures to check the incidence of cancer among the masses.

Raising slogans and carrying placards, they sensitised the people to the hazardous effects of tobacco, alcohol and narcotics.

Starting from the college, they marched through busy thoroughfares, including Old Bus Stand, East Main Street, Brindhavanam, North Main Street, Thilagar Thidal, New Bus Stand and Sathiyayoorthy Road, before returning to the college premises.

District panchayat president C. Muthusamy flagged off the rally.

Laudable efforts

Principal of the college K. Narayanasamy appreciated the efforts taken by the cadets to create awareness about the ill-effects of smoking and pan chewing.

He said the cadets brought laurels to the institution, referring to the first place secured by them in competitions held for the NCC.

NCC Company Commander of the college Lt. P. Rajaretnam said four cadets, including two girls, from the college had been selected for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
