PUDUKOTTAI: The staff of the Chief Judicial Magistrate court attached two buses belonging to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation here on Tuesday for failing to pay compensation to two persons, injured in separate road acidents in 1989 and 2002.
In 1989, Safia of Vettivayal near Aranthangi was injured while trying to alight from a Corporation-owned bus at a bus stop in Memangalam. She preferred a petition with the court, seeking compensation. In 2006, the Chief Judicial Magistrate ordered a compensation of Rs.67,000. Safia preferred an execution petition since the Corporation failed to effect the payment.
In another case, Usha Devi of Machuvadi was injured when she was hit by a bus in 2002. The court ordered a compensation of Rs.56,000, which is yet to be disbursed by the Corporation. She filed an execution petition, seeking a direction to the Corporation to pay the amount.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajamanickam ordered the attachment of a bus for each petition. The court staff went to the New Bus Stand, attached two buses and brought them to the court.
