Krishnagiri: Department of Agricultural Engineering has invited applications from farmers for attending a training camp on operation and maintenance of agricultural implements. A Collectorate release said that farmers in the age group of 18 to 40 years would be eligible to attend the camp.
Training would be held for a period of two weeks. Accommodation would be arranged for the participants. Preference would be given to farmers who had availed subsidy from the department. A stipend of Rs. 20 a day would be given. Interested farmers in Krishnagiri district can submit their applications with the Executive Engineer Agricultural Engineering, 46-H K.R.N buildings, K theatre Road, Cooperative colony on or before September 30 the release said.
Detained
A mill owner was detained under the Goondas Act here on Wednesday for smuggling rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System. According to police, Sabiullah of Trichy was arrested at the Krishnagiri-Chennai National Highway recently when he was found smuggling 300 bags of ration rice in a lorry. The lorry was bound to Bangarapet for sale and subsequent polishing in the open market. Acting on instructions from Collector Santhosh Babu Sabiullah was detained under the Goondas Act and remanded in custody in the Salem Central Prison.
