INTUC to host international textile workers meet

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) will host the 52nd executive committee meeting of the Textile Workers for Asian Regional Organisation (TWARO), an organisation based in Tokyo which groups together the free and democratic trade unions of textile and garment workers in Asia and the Pacific, on September 26 and 27 here.

As many as 56 delegates, including 27 women members, from several countries would participate in the meeting, which was for the first time being held in India, according to G. Ravichandran, president of the Puducherry unit of INTUC.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, he said prior to the executive committee meeting a workshop on issues related to women workers in textile and garment industry would be held from September 22 to 24.
