Strong demand: BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, second from left, addressing the party’s Executive Committee meeting at Palayamkottai. TIRUNELVELI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi should apologise to the nation for having hurt the sentiments of Hindus across the globe by filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court that questioned the existence of Rama and Ramar Sethu, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday after attending the party’s state executive committee meeting, Mr. Prasad, in-charge of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit, said the party, which actually took the initiative for the execution of Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project when it was in power at the Centre, was not against the SSCP and the party only opposed the “hasty manner” in which the scheme was being implemented. Karunanidhi criticisedMr. Prasad came down on Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for issuing an “objectionable statement against Rama and Ramar Sethu”. Terming his recent meeting with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa as “a courtesy call,” Mr. Prasad said he had high regards for her as her views on national security, terrorism and Ramar Sethu were similar to that of the BJP. Former Union Ministers Pon. Radhakrishnan and S. Thirunavukkarasar were present.
