NAMAKKAL: The district administration has sent a proposal to the government for constructing an overhead tank for Koodacheri village in Paramathi Velur taluk, Collector G. Sundaramurthi has said.
Participating in a mass contact programme in the village near here recently, the Collector said that the residents had complained that the existing tank in the village remained in a dilapidated condition. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board officials inspected the tank and suggested construction of a new overhead tank. After getting the approval, the work would begin.
The Collector said the administration would sink a borewell in the village this fiscal and two more in the next year. He said the district administration had taken up 17 drinking water supply works at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh in Paramathi Velur block. Check dams were being constructed at a cost Rs. 21 lakh in the block.
He said the district administration received a sum of Rs. 45 lakh for providing free house sites to 600 Adi Dravida families this financial year. He appealed to the people to co-operate with the district administration in making Namakkal child labour-free.
He received about 200 petitions during the programme.
He distributed welfare assistance worth Rs. 1 lakh to 60 beneficiaries.
