Law and order has deteriorated in Bangalore: Kharge

Special Correspondent

Congress leader sees Sangh Parivar outfits’ hand in Tuesday’s violence

‘Ruling parties have no control over the administrative machinery’

Government urged to ensure free and fair polls

BANGALORE: The Congress has criticised the violent incidents reported in the city on Tuesday and said they clearly indicated the failure on the part of the intelligence wing of the police.

Two persons were charred to death when an unruly mob set on fire a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus on Hosur Road on Tuesday night.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Mallikarjun Kharge said that the law and order had deteriorated in the city on account of “jungle raj” kind of administration by the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government. The ruling parties, which were busy in transfer of power, had no control over the administrative machinery. The associate wings of the BJP such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Vishwa Hindu Parishat and Bajrang Dal could also behind the incident, he alleged. The Government should keep vigilance on the activities of Sangh Parivar forces to maintain peace in the State, Mr. Kharge said.

Probe sought

The Congress leader demanded that the Government order an inquiry into the incident and arrest the culprits. The ineffective administration had allowed the miscreants to torch the bus. There was no protection to properties of the people residing in the city under the rule of the coalition Government, Mr. Kharge alleged and demanded compensation to the kin and kith of those killed in the incident.

Stating that deterioration of law and order could lead to flight of investment from the city to other cities, Mr. Kharge appealed to the people of the State to maintain peace. Instead of tackling the law and order problems grappling the city, the Kumaraswamy Government had been advertising its achievements in the media to garner votes in elections to urban local bodies, he charged.

The KPCC president termed elections to urban bodies as “mini Assembly polls” and appealed to the Government to gear up its administration for holding free and fair elections on September 28.

The districts in coastal Karnataka have been receiving heavy rains for the last two days and the Government should implement relief measures on a war-footing in the affected villages, Mr. Kharge added.
