HYDERABAD: Congress Member of Parliament Nandi Yellaiah called on Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday amid reports that he is one of the contenders for the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president’s post. Mr. Yellaiah, who had recently called on AICC president Sonia Gandhi and other senior party leaders in New Delhi to lobby for the party post, termed his meeting with Dr. Reddy as a routine one. He declined to comment whether the issue of the new PCC chief in wake of K. Keshava Rao’s resignation cropped during the meeting with Dr. Reddy. Mr. Yellaiah said he was confident that the high command would consider a leader from Telangana for the top post. “I impressed upon the AICC president that the party had given me Lok Sabha ticket on eight occasions based on my performance and commitment to the party. Considering my services to the party and my seniority, I am hopeful that the party will respond positively in selection of the next PCC president,” he remarked. He said the exercise to nominate a new PCC president could be delayed for some time as the reshuffle of AICC office bearers is on cards.
