‘Lot of names mentioned unnecessarily’ Media reaction termed as ‘temperate’ HYDERABAD: The threat of retired Vigilance Commissioner R.C. Samal on making public the names of corrupt officers notwithstanding, the Andhra Pradesh IAS Officers’ Association appears to be “not greatly worried” over the issue. This could be gauged from the fact that a formal meeting of the Association has not been convened even almost a week after Mr. Samal made public his report indicting several civil servants and announcing intentions to release another set of names of corrupt officials. “He is not an authority anymore and this is not an official report,” a functionary of the Association told The Hindu. Senior officials said they were not in a hurry to react on the “creative formulations” of a man who did not submit his reports to the Government despite being legally mandated to do so. Mr. Samal released his ‘findings’ to the media instead of the Government in which “lot of names were mentioned unnecessarily.” Officials termed the reactions from different sections, including the media, as “temperate” and said the Government was aware of the issue for taking an appropriate action. According to him, the Government mechanism has to follow several procedures in tune with the rule of law on the complaints received. “It is up to the disciplinary authorities to decide whether the matter needs to be looked into. And, there are several complaints where it is found that there is no need for investigation at all,” he said.
